Terms of Service
Effective date: 8 June 2026 Last updated: 8 August 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Lockday (“the service”, “the app”). By creating an account or using Lockday, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. The service
Lockday is an end-to-end encrypted task management application. Your task content is encrypted on your device before it is sent to our servers. Details of how we handle data are described in our Privacy Policy.
2. Your account
- You create an account with a username and a password. No email address is required.
- You are responsible for keeping your password confidential. Because your data is end-to-end encrypted, certain account-recovery flows that depend on knowing your password are not possible. Losing your password may mean losing access to your encrypted data.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Lockday, or older if your country sets a higher minimum age for using online services.
- One person, one account. You may not share your account credentials.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose, or to store or transmit content that is illegal in your jurisdiction.
- Attempt to circumvent the security or encryption of the service, or to access accounts or data that are not yours.
- Interfere with the operation of the service, including by overloading the server, scraping, or running automated abuse.
- Resell or commercially redistribute the service without permission.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. Because your content is encrypted, we cannot inspect it, so we do not detect violations by examining what you store. What we act on is conduct against the service itself, such as overloading the server, abusing the invitation system, or scripted account creation, and credible reports from outside.
4. Your content
You retain all rights to the task content you create. Because we cannot read your encrypted content, we make no claim to it.
You grant us a limited license to store and transmit your encrypted content as necessary to provide the service: to synchronize it between your devices, and to hold it in the operational backups described in section 8.
5. Project collaboration
When you invite another user to a shared project, you grant that user access to the encrypted content of that project. You are responsible for who you invite and what you share. We do not moderate the content of shared projects.
6. Service availability
The service is provided as-is and as-available. We do not guarantee any specific level of uptime, reliability, or performance. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time.
7. Lockday Pro, payments, and refunds
Lockday has a free tier and a paid tier called Lockday Pro. The free tier does not expire.
Plans and prices. Pro is sold as a monthly subscription, an annual subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Current prices are listed on the pricing page and shown in the app at the moment of purchase. The price your app store displays at checkout is the price you pay. It can differ from the US dollar list price, because stores apply their own regional pricing and taxes. There is no free trial. The free tier is how you evaluate Lockday.
Auto-renewal. Monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. Your app store takes the payment and manages the renewal. The lifetime purchase is charged once and does not renew.
Cancelling. You can cancel a subscription at any time through the store you bought it from, Google Play or the App Store. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for, after which the subscription is expired and the account returns to the free tier. Ending Pro does not delete any of your data. Content that sits above the free tier limits stays intact and readable, but you will need to be within those limits to create more.
Refunds. Purchases made through Google Play or the App Store are refunded under that store’s refund policy, and refund requests go to the store rather than to us. If a store refunds or reverses a purchase, the Pro access granted by that purchase is withdrawn.
Crypto payments. On builds distributed outside the app stores, the annual and lifetime plans can be paid in cryptocurrency. These payments are prepaid and verified against the blockchain. Because such transactions cannot be reversed once confirmed, they are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise. Send only the currency, network, and amount shown for your payment.
Price changes. We may change prices for future billing periods. For an active subscription, a price increase applies from the next renewal onward, and your app store will notify you and collect any consent it requires before charging the new amount.
What “lifetime” means. A lifetime purchase is a single payment with no recurring charge, and it covers Pro for as long as we operate the service. It is not a promise that the service will run for any particular length of time. See section 6.
8. Backups and liability
Backups. We keep backups of our database, and your encrypted content is in them. Their purpose is to let us recover the service after a failure on our side. They are not a way to restore a single account: we cannot take one user’s deleted task out of a backup, because we cannot read what is inside it. Keep your own copies of anything important. The app can export your data at any time.
Liability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or business arising out of your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is capped at whichever is larger of: what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or USD 50.
9. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from within the app. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or if we decide to discontinue the service. On termination, your encrypted data will be deleted from our servers in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Inactive free accounts. A free account that has not signed in or synced for 12 months may be deleted, along with the encrypted data stored for it on our servers. Before that happens we flag the account and attempt to notify the devices registered to it, and we do not delete it until at least 30 days after that notice. Signing in resets the clock. Accounts with a current Pro membership, including lifetime Pro, are never deleted for inactivity.
Because no email address is attached to your account, that notice can only be sent to devices still running the app, and it may not reach you. The app also warns you inside itself when it has not been able to sync for a long time. If you want to keep an account you are not using, sign in once within any 12 month period.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified within the app. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
11. Who we are, and how to reach us
Lockday is an independent project rather than a company. “We” throughout these Terms means the operator of the service, who can be reached at support@lockday.net, or from inside the app (Settings → Send feedback). If you need our identity in writing for a legal or regulatory request, ask at that address and we will provide it.
